Thank you to everyone who supported our crepe stall at the district bonfire event. Special thanks to: Sarah DK for organising us all, Sarah and Nuttavee (Kim) for keeping the crepes coming; Rich (Rama) and Phil for ‘running’ and making sure everything was where it needed to be; Stuart C and Stuart K for being the most entertaining servers in spite of the Golden Syrup; Ade for mucking in on his first involvement with 6th Beeston and making loads of tea and coffee; Daz for electricity and drumming up business; Joe for sorting the money for us at the end of the night and to everyone who supported us by buying from our stall!
Although this website has had a makeover, almost all the content on it was created by the former webmaster, Joe Chamberlain.
As well as running the site, Joe has served the Group for many years as treasurer, secretary and bookings secretary and played a critical role in the acquisition and construction of the new HQ.
Now that Joe is standing down from these roles, the Group would like to express their appreciation for the huge and lasting contribution he has made.
NB. Joe will remain our treasurer until the end of the Group’s financial year, after which he will formally stand down from all roles, although we very much hope and expect to still see Joe around the Group!
John Moorhouse (far right), Group Vice President and Trustee sadly passed away on 14th May.
The AGM and Summer Event took place at the headquarters on Sunday 6th July. The event was well attended (despite the weather). The Groups Annual Report and Accounts were presented at the AGM and everyone was entertained by the Bezerkaz Circus who put on a Circus Skills workshop! Stuart Stanton, District Commissioner, South West Notts Scout Association presented Richard Needham, Cub Leader, with the Chief Scouts 20 years service award and Lucy Kemp, Assistant Beaver Scout Leader, with the Medal for Meritorious Conduct. See the “photo” section of the web site for pictures of the day.
The new building was officially opened by Sir Andrew Buchanan, Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire on Saturday 10th May. The photos of the event are available in the HQ Opening Ceremony Album. The event was also attended by Councilor Brian Wombwell, Mayor of Broxtowe and his wife Christine. Colin Tucker, Group Chairman, gave a speech before inviting Sir Andrew to unveil a commemorative plaque. A prayer written by the cubs section was read out by Joel Price.
We have moved, it’s official! A big thank you to all those who were involved with the move into our new HQ over the weekend and as from Monday 9th January we are fully operational, however the surrounding area is still a building site so would everyone please use the Middle Street entrance. The external doors are locked electronically and entry is gained by pressing the call button on the keypad to the right of the door, someone will then let you in. These doors are fire doors and can only be opened from the inside.
